Simulation of Area Weapons Effects Project Collection, 1982-1989.

The bulk of the collection consists of JPL and U.S. Army reports, memoranda, notes, letters, articles, drawings and specifications, graphs, diagrams, corporate product catalogs, contracts, test reports, computer printouts, procurement forms, samples, viewgraphs, 100 5 ơ" floppy computer disks, seventeen 70-mm film rolls and 370 various sized photographs. This material pertains to JPL's involvement with the manufacturing and testing of the SAWE Indirect Fire Simulation (IFS), Player Detection Device (PDD), Mine Effects Simulator (MES) and Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES) for the U.S. Army. The collection is arranged in 888 file folders plus four 0.3 cubic foot special size boxes. The section's file clerks had filed materials in separate file folders, binders and boxes and had them specifically labeled. The original filing order has been retained, although internal evidence in the files indicates the collection was originally a part of a larger numeric-filing scheme, here incomplete. Floppy data disks and the 70-mm roll film have been separately clustered at the end of the collection. Photographs have been retained in the filing order where found. Most acronyms used are defined in Part L of Martha Martinez, editor, abbreviations and Acronyms Guide, JPL 1030-30 Rev. A, May 1980. A copy is available in the repository.
